Foreign Professionals learn Chinese at Confucius Institute, NTU
Chinese language programmes offered by Confucius Institute, NTU have been very well received by expatriates in Singapore. Over the past year, more than100 people had enrolled in Confucius Institute, NTU’s programmes.
Singapore, being a regional financial centre, has attracted many international banks and finance houses to set up their regional and Asia-Pacific Centre. More than 700 billion Singapore dollars in funds are now managed out of Singapore. In recent years, through the continuous enthusiastic efforts of Confucius Institute, NTU in disseminating Chinese culture and language, many foreign professionals are now very interested in Chinese language and culture. Expatriates, together with their families are now learning about Chinese culture and its language through programmes offered by Confucius Institute, NTU. "More than 100 foreign professionals and executives had enrolled in our programmes with participants from Europe forming the majority", commented Mr Jason Lee of Confucius Institute, NTU. "Our Chinese course for expatriates is conducted over 11 weeks with a total of 33 training hours at an affordable fee of S$500. The entire curriculum is conducted in the Chinese language with native teachers from China. Through the usage of actions and pictures, participants learn about basic Chinese vocabulary and practice their conversational skills. The usage of English is minimized to enhance the learning experience within a Chinese environment”, said Lee.
