Confucius Institute Fund, NTU

Introduction on Confucius Institute Fund, NTU
Confucius Institute Fund, NTU was set up in July 2007 with the active and financial support from local Chinese community leaders, clans and business associations. Among them was businessman and Nanyang University alumnus, Mr Liew Sing Hun, who gave $100,000 to start the Confucius Institute Fund, NTU. Others who swiftly followed Mr Liew’s footsteps include business leader, Mr Ho Kiau Seng, president of the Nanyang Khek Community Guild and he gave $200,000. The biggest single donation - $300,000 – came from the Char Yong (Dabu) Association. The $1million fund was then matched on a 1 to 1 government funding; thus, a total of $2 million was raised for the fund.

The aim of setting up the fund is to encourage and promote the writings of the World Chinese literature, and to recognize the well known works through the Nanyang Chinese Literature Award and holding biennial International forums on topics pertaining to Chinese literature.
