Lien Shih Sheng Youth Chinese Literature Fund
The Lien Shih Sheng Youth Chinese Literature Fund was established on 15th September 2007 to commemorate the rich contribution of the late-Mr Lien Shih Sheng to the Chinese literary scene in Singapore during his lifetime.
The primary objective of the Lien Shih Sheng Youth Chinese Literature fund is to encourage active engagement in, and production of Chinese literature amongst Singapore youths. By promoting the creation and circulation of esteemed Chinese literature works, this fund aims to provide the much-needed precedence for the continuation and proliferation of Chinese literature in the 21st century.
Learning the Chinese language and having a good grasp of the Chinese culture is presently more than ever a necessity for Singaporeans to compete effectively in an increasingly global and multi-cultural business environment as well as aid the strengthening of cross-border ties.
The Lien Shih Sheng Youth Chinese Literature Fund organizes and sponsors a series of book launches, seminars and essay writing competitions annually. Youths who produce particularly illuminating pieces of work are invited to present their essays at Lien Shih Sheng events and may stand a chance to represent Singapore in the Global Chinese Youth Essay Competition.
Governmental support for the Lien Shih Sheng Youth Literature Fund has also been very positive, in view of the government’s commitment to match dollar for dollar, any financial contribution made by the general public. In addition, public donations would qualify the donors for double tax deduction. Hence, we at Confucius Institute, NTU, would like to appeal for the public for financial assistance to support us in our quest to accomplish such noble aspirations. The appeal letter and donation form is available for download below this passage.
